Welcome to the Torbay Lifeboat Station Web Site. The site, which is maintained by lifeboat station personnel and as such is not an official RNLI Web Site, includes both history and indicative operational information of the service provided to those who spend time  along the South Devon Coastline from Teignmouth to Start Point and 50 miles out into the English Channel.

Returning Home

If you are a serious Lifeboat Enthusiast then we give details of comprehensive books covering the whole life of the Station since 1866. Recent Operational details are in the All Weather and Inshore lifeboat sections..

Please do not forget our Life Saving activities are possible only because of Voluntary Contributions. Please Support the RNLI.

RNLI Purpose and Vision

Through the dedication and training of around 35 volunteers Officers and Crew at Torbay our purpose is to 'Save lives at Sea'.

In doing so the RNLI vision is to be recognised universally as the most effective, innovative and dependable lifeboat service.

Our Station

Torbay has been served by Lifeboats since 1866 and Brixham has provided the base for lifeboats since that time. The Station was granted the Freedom of the Borough of Torbay in 1988.  For a period just under 50 years Torquay had a lifeboat station, Dartmouth also had lifeboats for just under 20 years from 1878.

BM 76 'Vigilance' observes the 2003 SAR Demo

Torbay is among the busiest lifeboat stations in the Country and can expect around 100 launches in any one year. Brixham is a busy fishing port, there are five large marinas within our operational area together with leisure and yacht clubs, water skiing, para gliding, diving, cliffs (walks and falls!) - any water activity you can think of,  including observing dolphins, probably occurs in our area.

So step inside the site and we hope you catch a flavour of our work. A full Table of Contents can be found in the Menu. Please note information on this site is maintained by the Torbay Station who are responsible for overall content.
