Location of Casualty Off South Fort at Berry Head

Service A member of the public reported two people apparently in difficulty in an inflatable dinghy off the

cliffs at South Fort, Berry Head. ILB tasked and in view of the weather conditions and other

information suggesting there may be others in difficulty on the cliff face the ALB was also

tasked. The two in an inflatable were in difficulty and were collected by the ILB before

transferring to the ALB and being returned to Brixham for a cup of tea.

Additional Notes They were apparently taking photographs of the others free climbing the cliff face

Service Fishing Cruiser ''Karine' suffered a major engine failure thought initially to be an engine fire.

ALB tasked to her assistance. Crew member transferred with extinguishers whist a tow

established and she was towed back to Brixham - all OK.

Additional Notes Dart Lifeboat on exercise near the Mewstone diverted to standby

Location of Casualty Coast - Broadsands to Livermead

Service Both lifeboats launched to assist in a search for a missing person. Police and HMCG involved.

Detailed search between Broadsands and Livermead with no result. Search stood down at 15:39

following no sightings

Location of Casualty East of Armchair Rock, Three Beaches

Service Beach attendants at Broadsands reported an inflatable with two adults and a dog apparently on a

fishing expedition were being rapidly blown out to sea. Both lifeboats were launched. The ILB

recovered the small inflatable and transferred the occupants to the ALB before returning to

Brixham. They were met by HMCG and the Police.

Service Responded to report of three girls in difficulty in the sea at Goodrington South Sands. On arrival

of HMCG Team the girls came ashore and ran off. ALB Stood down

Service Whilst refuelling following the previous shout the ALB was requested to provide assistance to

recover a man in the water at Torquay Harbour. The person self recovered and the ALB stood

down and returned to complete her refuelling.

Location of Casualty Landcombe Point

Service The Dart Lifeboat was launched following reports of a cave collapse near Blackpool Sands to the

south west of the River Dart entrance. A group were camping in the cave when the ceiling

collapsed trapping one person and seriously injuring another. The Torbay ALB was launched to

provide light and medical assistance to the casualties. Helo R169 from Chivenor was tasked and

transported three casualties to Torbay Hospital. Torbay crew Paramedic and GP assisted.

Location of Casualty Brixham Breakwater/Beach

Service Having just completed an exercise with Portland Helo 106 a report was received of a man who

had fallen near the Breakwater and Breakwater Beach. The ILB attended collecting a paramedic

from the ALB also on exercise together with a stretcher. Casualty recovered from the waters

edge on the stretcher and transferred to the station boat house. An ambulance attended and

transferred him to hospital..

Location of Casualty Quarter mile North of Berry Head

Service Following a May Day relay via 'Jennifer Ann' from a dive boat reporting a missing diver all SAR

units were tasked and major search routines initiated involving all the resources available. The

search was co-ordinated by Torbay Lifeboat as On Scene Commander for the main sea

search joined later by Salcombe for alternative search patterns. HM CG coordinated all shore line

and Helicopter patterns. The search was wound down as darkness fell.

Additional Notes Salcombe Lifeboat and Lifeboat 12-004 on passage joined the search. At various stages

Helicopters R169, R193 and CG106 together with the Devon and Cornwall Police Helo were

involved. Around twelve other vessels joined the search.

Service The fishing vessel 'Aleyna' suffered a complete failure of her steering gear. A Pan Pan was

raised and one response received. In view of the ETA timescale to the casualty the ALB was

tasked to return her under tow to Brixham.

Location of Casualty East of Orestone

Service Whilst on exercise the ALB was tasked to a dive RIB with engine failure. There were five divers

down at the time. Helo 106 from Portland was in the area and assisted by observing where the

divers surfaced. The ALB recovered all divers and together with the RIB returned them all to

Brixham.

Location of Casualty Peak Tor Cove, Torquay

Service The ALB was launched following a '999' call reporting a person had fallen into 'Peak Tor Cove.

This is a difficult point to access from shore. The ALB deployed the Y Boat in difficult weather

conditions - Force 5/6 and torrential rain putting a crewman and paramedic ashore. The Y boat

was used to move medical supplies from the ALB ashore whilst the casualty was stabilised

before arrival of Helo 169 from Culdrose. The casualty was transferred to Derriford Hospital.

Additional Notes This was a very difficult operation - the ILB later relieved the Y Boat - see ILB shout 26

Service The yacht 'Dream Catcher' had been struggling in terrible weather conditions trying to get to

Dartmouth. Their engine had failed and they became exhausted. The ALB was tasked and

escorted them back to Brixham where they were assisted to a berth.

Service Launched to the Dive Vessel 'Lodesman' with a diver in difficulty - Helo also tasked to this

casualty three miles East of Start Point. On passage the ALB was diverted to a second Dive

Vessel 'Maureen of Dartmouth' also with a diver in difficulty. ALB recovered this casualty and

rendezvouss with the Helo - both dive casualties transferred to Poole for treatment.

Service Launched to escort the training vessel 'Spirit of Brittania' back to Brixham. She was suffering

water leak and hydraulic fluid problems with a full training crew of children aboard.
