Location of Paignton Beach

Service Report received from the Police of an adult and child possibly in need of assistance 40 metres

from the shore at Paignton Beach. Both lifeboats tasked together with the pleasure boat Dart

Princess. After a number of searches no problem found - search stood down at 21:21 hrs.

Location of Mid River Moorings - River Dart

Service Launched to the River Dart following a report of a fire on a River Link vessel. Fire fighters gained

access before ALB arrived - ALB stood by until problem resolved in case evacuation from

adjacent vessels required.

Location of 8 miles ESE of Berry Head

Service A vessel in St Mary's Bay reported what appeared to be another vessel to the east on fire with

smoke and flames. No other reports received and many vessels in the area. ALB on way to PR

event investigated - thought to be a container ship altering course and yellow superstructure

glinting in the sun. No action required.

Service Launched to a fishing vessel to evacuate a crewman with chest pains. Crew examined by

paramedic , transferred to the lifeboat and then Torquay Harbour to a waiting ambulance.

Location of Off Scabbacombe near Nimble Rock.

Service The single handed twin hull yacht 'Vivacious' on passage from Plymouth to Torquay became

trapped in fishing gear markers and lost the ability to manoeuvre. ALB tasked to her assistance,

freed her from the gear and took her in tow to Torquay.

Service See previous shout - dropped fuel off to 'Baltic' at 08:20 and proceeded to the trawler 'Virgo' with

its gear caught in the propeller. Returned under tow to Brixham. Virgo moored at Brixham 13:40

Service On approaching Torbay the 68ft ketch 'Baltic' ran out of fuel to manoeuvre. AWB already tasked to

a second incident so dropped 50 ltrs of fuel off on the way.

Location of 500 yds off Torquay Harbour

Service Speed boat with 6 adults and 3 children aboard broke down close to Torquay Harbour and

dropped anchor. No other vessels in the vicinity - ALB tasked and returned her to Torquay

Harbour.

Location of Dartmouth Castle/Warfleet Creek

Service A fisherman fell from rocks into the sea near Dartmouth Castle. The injuries and location were

such that evacuation required the use of a spinal board. Also the smoothest passage to an

awaiting ambulance was by sea. ALB tasked with Doctor on board to carry out the evacuation to

Dartmouth. Coastguard and Ambulance Paramedic in also in attendance.

Service Two red flares were reported from the general direction of St Mary's Bay. Several boats proceeded

and one person recovered from the sea by vessel Princess Arabella. ALB tasked and met the

vessel and confirmed no one else involved. ALB continued to area where the small boat had

sunk near the Cod rocks. No obvious floating obstruction found. ALB stood down after

establishing position of casualty vessel.

Service The AWB had just left the mooring to attend the annual service of dedication held at the Old Fish

Market when she was tasked to a swimmer in difficulty at Blackpool Sands.

Additional Notes On return from the shout the lifeboat entered the inner harbour as the dedication service ended.

All stood and cheered!

Location of Line from Teignmouth to Hopes Nose and beyond

Service An orange inflatable was reported as being blown towards Torquay from Teignmouth. Winds

gusting North 6 at the time. Teignmouth tasked initially and Torbay tasked later to search for the

inflatable. After extensive search nothing was found. HM Coastguard teams checked shoreline.

Additional Notes Strong off shore winds took a number of inflatables to sea along the south coast.

Service During a routine exercise three young people got into difficulty on the cliffs at St Mary's Bay. ALB

Service Launched to an apparent collision on the River Dart. It appears a speedboat with three men on

board ran into a moored cruiser between Waddeton and Sandridge Boat Houses. Injuries

sustained by three people who were recovered to the cruiser and another vessel. One with

serious injuries air lifted to Derriford and the others taken to Torbay. ILB with AWB assisted

recovery to shore of the injured people..

Additional Notes At the time of the incident it was around low water. Lifeboats stood down once casualty situation

clear.

Service Launched to investigate three inflatable dinghies apparently being paddled from Slapton Sands

to Dartmouth. The dinghies came ashore at Blackpool Sands and Coastguards were able to

confirm all were safe and well. ALB stood down at 20:43.

Service During the start to the Tall Ships 50th Anniversary Race a lady was taken ill on one of the

pleasure boats. The ALB was close to the vessel and put a doctor and paramedic aboard. The lady was

evacuated by stretcher and taken to Torquay Harbour for onward transport to Torbay Hospital.
