Location of Casualty River Dart entrance

Service ALB Launched in response to a report of a 30ft yacht and tender drifting out of the River Dart with no

lights or visible occupants. Occupants who were apparently asleep were eventually woken and

returned the yacht to her moorings. ALB stood down and returned to station.

Service Launched in response to a Police report of a 999 mobile phone call. Mobile positioned

approximately 2 miles ENE of Hopes Nose.

Search carried out and no targets identified. Following investigation into mobile phone number a

hoax call assumed. ALB returned to station

Location of Casualty 8 miles ESE of Berry Head

Service A crew member of a yacht with two crew and on passage from Weymouth to Dartmouth was

accidentally knocked unconscious during an unplanned jibe. He recovered but his condition gave

cause for concern. Helo India Juliet and Torbay Lifeboat both tasked. Helo transferred casualty to

shore and and awaiting ambulance for onward transport to Torbay Hospital. ALB and crew assisted

yacht into Brixham Harbour.

Service As yachts began to take shelter on the Fastnet race the 53ft yacht Anna with a Russian crew lost

her mast and rigging. They were unable to make harbour safely. Both Torbay Lifeboats launched to

her assistance and returned her to Brixham Harbour

Additional Notes Near Gale Southerly and torrential rain.

Service Following an unsuccessful Pan Pan broadcast for a 26 ft angling vessel with a failed drive the ALB

was launched to her assistance. Vessel towed to Torquay Harbour.

Service A beam trawler lost propulsion on approach to Brixham Harbour. ALB was out on exercise at the

time and was diverted to assist her to the Fish Market.

Location of Casualty 25 miles ESE of Berry Head

Service The 32ft Yacht 'Lontano' set sail from Cherbourg on passage to Dartmouth yesterday morning and

suffered engine failure in the early evening mid channel. With light airs the crew attempted to sail for

a number of hours but were mainly being moved by the tide. Pan Pan issued and decision taken in

the early hours to return them under tow. ALB tasked and returned yacht to Brixham.

Service The 8 mtr Centaur Yacht 'Palamena' suffered a fouled prop and was trapped by fishing gear. Pan

pan issued with no suitable initial response. ALB tasked to her assistance. The yacht did manage

to free herself and another took her in tow until the ALB arrived on scene. Yacht towed back to

Brixham all OK by the ALB

Service Launched in response to a report of a missing windsurfer. The windsurfer was thought to be on a

track between Paignton and Brixham and had not been seen for around one hour. ALB located him

off Hollicombe Headland at 13:34. He was recovered to the ALB and checked by Paramedic - all

OK. Returned to point of departure aboard the ILB

Additional Notes Wind SW gusting Gale Force 8 with very heavy rain - visibility very low. Conditions not suitable for

Helo search

Location of Casualty Possibly Paignton Pier area

Service Following firm sightings of two (possibly three) red flares reported from both shore and afloat the

ALB was tasked to the area of the sighting.

On passage to the search area a further two white flares were sighted but not near the original

position. Extensive visual and radar searches carried out in Torbay but nothing found. Search stood

down.

Service Torbay Lifeboat was refuelling following her return passage from Poole. Refuelling was

interrupted to attend a casualty at Meadfoot were two Kayakers had capsized requiring

assistance. Kayakers made it to shore - ALB recovered Kayaks using the Y boat

Service Fishing vessel Lady Lou started taking water. The HM Coastguard requested the ALB escort her

back to Brixham lest the situation got worse. Her bilge pumps were able to maintain the levels

but any other failure would have been a problem. ALB escorted her to Brixham,
