Service DSC Distress Call received on the River Dart Aerial. Lifeboat launched to

establish situation. MMSI number subsequently identified as Dutch sailing

vessel 'Zeezot'. Confirmed all OK on board at 16:34. Service ended.

Additional Notes 'Zeezot' moored safely alongside at Dartmouth

Service Bayliner 'Moon River' reported taking water and in need of assistance. AWB

launched and found her making her way slowly back to the River Dart having

shut down the main engine which had overheated - possibly due to belt failure

and/or a split hose pipe. - a

Service 44ft Yacht Gypsy Lady reported taking water. Lifeboat and Helicopter tasked.

Loyal Supporter and other craft also proceeding. Lifeboat on scene 09:55 -

pump and crew member transferred. Taken in tow to Brixham. Alongside 11:30

Additional Notes May Day Relay issued. Position 11 miles 113 deg from Berry Head. Skipper

very impressed with response by all concerned.

Service 40 ft Ketch 'Dagny' suffered steering failure. Ketch in general area of

commercial shipping. Lifeboat tasked to return her to Brixham.

Additional Notes Returned to Brixham - whilst refuelling Yacht Gypsy Lady reported in difficulty.

Service The Paignton Police requested assistance locating a person who may have

entered the water at Fairy Cove, Paignton. A very extensive search was

carried out both on the water and on shore. Nothing found and both lifeboats

involvement ended at 01:48

Additional Notes Police Helicopter & Coast Guard Shore teams also involved in a very detailed

and extensive search

Service May Day received from yacht 'Business of Tourse'. Initial position received

fixed yacht off Hopes Nose but Solent CoastGuard put location as Berry Head.

Radio contact lost with yacht - AWB tasked to Berry Head and Hopes Nose.

Location information turned out to be incorrect - Search stood down.

Additional Notes Yacht eventually contacted Portland by Mobile phone - found to be off

Portland. Weymouth Lifeboat recovered yacht and four persons.

Location of Casualty 0.5 mile NE Brix Breakwater.

Service On return from 'routine scrub & antifoul' AWB came across a Catamaran

capsized and having difficulty getting righted. Stood by while ILB crew

launched to assist. Whilst standing by the spoken word 'May Day May Day'

was received. Coast Guard gave a track from the message - AWB tasked to

search line Berry Head to Paignton Harbour - nothing found.

Additional Notes May Day call along a line bearing 305 from Berry Head ending in Paignton

Harbour. ILB checked Paignton Harbour.

Location of Casualty Corbyn Head, Torquay

Service Three youths cut off by the tide at Corbyn Head. At time of shout the AWB had

just returned to the moorings after an evening exercise. Hence fast launch.

'Y' boat deployed at scene and youths transferred to Torre Abbey Sands

where they were met by Coast Guards and given advice.

Additional Notes This would normally have been an Inshore Boat Shout but as the AWB was at

full and immediate readiness the option to use the AWB and Y boat was the

fastest.

Service 16 ft Shetland Cruiser with engine failure at anchor but drifting towards and

very close to Thatcher rock. AWB tasked to her assistance. Two people on

Service Motor Sail Vessel 'Triciant' suffered a fuel line failure on passage from

Guernsey to Dartmouth. Vessel with two people on board towed into

Dartmouth.

Additional Notes The AWB was launched at the end of a Crew Meeting as there was no risk or

danger to the occupants.

Location of Casualty Blackpool Sands, Dartmouth

Service Report received by the Coast Guard of a lady being trapped in a small cove to

the north of Blackpool Sands, Dartmouth for several hours. In view of the

weather conditions - Easterly Force 7 and gusting the AWB was tasked with

the plan to use the Y boat close up. In the event Helicopter WB recovered the

lady OK.

Additional Notes Weather conditions deteriorated rapidly during this service and considerable

skill was required by all concerned.

Service Charter Yacht 'Amalia' with nine perople on board reported to be taking water.

She is some 30 miles from Berry Head. AWB launched to her assistance. On

arrival the yacht crew were able to pump and bail to maintain levels. LB

escorted them back to Brixham.

Additional Notes Fault was subsequently found to be a split hose pipe to the toilet sea

connection.

Location of Casualty Goodrington Beach

Service Report received of a child in difficulty in a dinghy off Goodrington Beach. AWB

tasked to scene. On arrival someone had swum out and assisted the child to

shore. All safe and well. AWB returned as below

Additional Notes The AWB was making her way across the Harbour to the annual Seafarers

Memorial Service when the call came hence the immediate launch. On her

return she moored for the wreath laying and dedication.

Service 37 ft Motor Yacht 'Duquesa' suffered an engine fire - not clear whether fire

was extinguished. Two people on board. Boat towed to Torquay Harbour,

Haldon Pier for Fire Brigade to check over.

Additional Notes Pan Pan issued and 'Sea Spray III' stood by until lifeboat on scene at 15:25

Service 46 foot Watson Lifeboat 'Janet Rae' broken down and drifting with complete

mechanical and electrical failure. No Radio etc. 'Pan Pan' issued by Coastguard

got no response. Lifeboat launched to assist her. One person and dog on

board.

Additional Notes Actual Position 9 miles East Berry Head. Communication via mobile phone

through Coast Guard.

Service Sloop 'Westward II' became becalmed and then suffered a complete engine and

electrical failure. Lifeboat tasked to tow her into Brixham. Young family on

board.

Additional Notes Whilst not in immediate danger she would have become a navigational hazard

after dark particularly since large commercial vessels pass in this area for

pilot transfers

Location of Casualty 2 miles South of Berry Head

Service Yacht 'Yendor' in the vicinity of Scabbacombe suffered a fouled propeller. A

number of vessels had gone to her assistance but were unable to assist .

Lifeboat launched to assist. On arrival problem sorted - returned to station -

yacht made her own way to Dartmouth.

You may be expecting to see details of a Shout initiated at 23:56 on Monday 9th June -  it was cancelled two minutes later as the problem went away! It was a yacht - probably caught by tide and going aground on Broadsands - but the off shore wind got hold and blew her back out to sea. Thankyou for taking an interest in the site.
