Service Yacht 'Baranteena' suffered a loss of her steering gear some 18 miles ENE of

Brixham in strong/gale force SSE winds. Pan Pan issued. AWB tasked to the

casualty. Crew member transferred to the yacht to assist with establishing the

tow. Tow established at 14:10 in very difficult conditions. Returned to Brixham

under tow.

Additional Notes Arrived outside Brixham Harbour at 17:15 after an uncomfortable three hours.

Service Launched to join the present ongoing search for a missing male in Torquay.

(details ILB Shout 27). Wind conditions making ILB search in open water

difficult. Search terminated at 11:02

Location of Casualty St Mary's Bay

Service On completion of the previous shout the AWB joined the ILB and others in the

search for the owner of a pile of clothes found on St Mary's Beach, Search

terminated just before 3 am

Additional Notes Just before 3 am the owner of the clothes was identified and found to be at

home in Bridgwater.

Service Launched to a 6 metre 'Plymouth Pilot' with engine failure close to Thatcher

Rock. Taken in tow and returned to Torquay Harbour.

Location of Casualty 2 Cables South of Dartmouth Mew Stone

Service 25 ft Sloop 'Holinella' with three people on board .issued a May Day having

suffered engine failure and being blown towards rocks near Dartmouth Castle.

AWB tasked. Belgium warship 'Lobelia' launched RIB and recovered sloop to

the warship from vicinity of the Mew Stone awaiting AWB. AWB returned

sloop under tow to Dartmouth Harbour. All OK.

Location of Casualty 15 mile ESE Berry Head

Service The 11 metre motor cruiser 'Katanga' suffered a complete electrical and

mechanical failure. She lost communication capability also. Yacht Lollipop

provided comms and stood by until the AWB arrived to recover her to Brixham

Harbour.

Location of Casualty 50 27.8N 003 26.2W

Service Fishing vessel BM1 'Guyona' issued a May Day reporting a fire on board. A

number of vessels responded and AWB tasked. Guyona headed directly for

Brixham and the AWB stood close escort in the event of evacuation being

required. The skipper suffered smoke inhalation and was given oxygen before

being taken to hospital for a check up. On arrival at Brixham she was met by

the fire brigade and all hotspots clear by 19:30hrs.

Additional Notes Brixham Harbourmaster acted swiftly to sort out potential congestion as

pleasure boats returned at the same time

Location of Casualty 5.5 Mile NE Berry Head

Service Dive boat 'Sea Horse' put out a 'May Day' including the information that she had

suffered engine failure with divers in the water. Around five vessels headed

for the area and the AWB was also tasked. All six divers were recovered and

the RIB returned under tow by the lifeboat to Brixham.

Additional Notes Sea conditions at the diveboat position were potentially difficult for locating

divers. The presence of others made the task easier.

Location of Casualty Redcliffe, Paignton

Service A security guard reported three youths in a 13ft boat off Torre Abbey

apparently using paddles and possibly unable to start the outboard.

Coastguard teams sent to search and check for the boat but nothing found.

AWB tasked to search coastline. 22:03 a 999 call received from the small boat

and they were eventually found off Redcliffe at Paignton. Three youths taken

on board lifeboat and all returned to Paignton at 22:27

Additional Notes Portland Helo R169 tasked but turned back when boat located

Location of Casualty Near Shoalstone Pool, Brixham

Service Windsurfer reported to be in difficulty off the coast at Shoalstone Pool,

Brixham. With the extreme winds AWB tasked. Just before dropping the

mooring ropes the windsurfer managed to swim ashore abandoning the

windsurf board. Launch stood down.

Additional Notes Winds WSW Gusting force 7/8 - with serious squalls
