Location of Casualty

Service On approach to Paignton Harbour after a PR trip the AWB was tasked to a Corbyn Head. A report had

been received that two people had been cut off by the high tide. 'Y' Boat prepared for launch but no

one found.

Additional Notes Observation had been made at a distance - ALB Crew observed a group walking away from he

headland.

Service See ILB Shout 29 - Once it was established that a car had entered the sea all emergency units were

tasked and the AWB joined as well. Detailed searches carried out but no one located at the scene. All

units stood down at 22:00

Additional Notes Police investigating - driver of car located later

Location of Casualty Stoke Gabriel, River Dart

Service A yacht tender with four people on board capsized in the River Dart near Stoke Gabriel. The

occupants managed to make it aboard a yacht moored in the River and called for assistance. Options

to recover them were explored before launching the AWB. Coastguards also deployed. Coastguards

located a Dory and recovered the four. AWB released just as she arrived at the Higher Ferry,

Dartmouth.

Additional Notes Plan to take AWB to Dittisham and deploy the Y Boat to the casualties.

Service Launched to a single handed 32ft sailing vessel 'True Vine' with engine failure having difficulty

making way and requesting assistance. Pan Pan broadcast issued but no suitable vessels

responded. AWB tasked to the yacht and taken in tow, with some difficulty, to Dartmouth.

Location of Casualty Yacht at Arm Chair Rock / Saltern Cove

Service See ILB Shout 21 for basic details. From the log aboard the yacht it was apparent that she had

anchored in the SW corner of the bay overnight and was preparing to sail. Approx two hours

elapsed between the recorded forecast and the ILB arriving on scene therefore the search patterns

developed explored all possibilities of drift for someone in the water during this period. Regrettably no

one was found.

Additional Notes Search joined by Helos 169 (Chivenor) and WB (Portland), Teignmouth Lifeboat together with

coastguard shore teams and other vessels.

Location of Casualty 9.5 miles SE of Berry Head

Service A 22 metre barge under tow by the tug 'Doris K' towards Falmouth reported problems with the

barge taking water following the failure of a forward hatch. Helo WB on another tasking inspected

the barge and made a temporary repair. AWB tasked to escort to a safe anchorage and assist in

stabilising the barge - Visit to Torquay Maritime Festival interrupted. Pumps provided to clear some of

the water in the bilges there being no bulkhead sections. Barge and tug escorted into Torbay and

anchored. A busy few hours!

Additional Notes Barge was close to sinking when pumps established and spare pump provided to assist. Wind SW

7 gusting 9

Service 27ft Trimaran 'Triton' reported problems and requested assistance to get back to Brixham following

sail and engine difficulties. Pan Pan issued with no suitable response. ALB tasked. Due to the wind

strength and sea conditions the trimaran was taken in tow to Teignmouth arriving at approximately

10:25. AWB then proceeded to Torquay Harbour for the Torquay Maritime Festival where they moored

at 10:57 - BUT see shout 15.

Service The 22 ft motor cruiser with one person on board 'Finmaster' suffered engine failure approx half mile

off shore near Druids Mare, Mansands. Pan Pan issued. AWB tasked and 'Our Joel' proceeded.

Vessel taken in tow and returned to Brixham Harbour.

Additional Notes HM Coastguard team gave assistance.

Location of Casualty 6 miles SSE Berry Head

Service A 32 metre converted river barge lost power approximately 6 miles SSE of

Berry Head. She was on passage from Shannon to the Isle of Wight. Pan Pan issued but no suitable

response received hence AWB launched to her assistance. Taken in tow to Dartmouth all OK.

Lifeboat met by Dart Harbour staff who assisted in mooring the barge between mid river buoys.

Additional Notes Fairly stiff Easterly breeze and barge rolling significantly in the swell.

Service Launched to assist in recovery of two divers whose dive boat had a fouled propeller and had drifted

some distance from their last known position.

One diver injured on the dive boat and airlifted by helicopter. Two divers located and recovered OK

by others. AWB released at 12:36 to return to station. Dive Boat escorted to Lyme Regis by Sidmouth

Rescue.

Additional Notes Two helicopters tasked together with Sidmouth Rescue and Torbay Lifeboat

Service Launched to the yacht 'Blue Star' that had become trapped by a pot marker some two miles south of

the Dartmouth Mewstone. Two people on board. The yachts' mainsail also became trapped and the

rudder jammed. Yacht freed and taken in tow to Dartmouth to sort out the problems.

Additional Notes Strong south westerly wind building with considerable swell on scene.
