Service Launched to the fishing vessel 'One Stop' with a fouled propeller in Babbacombe Bay.

Returned under tow to Brixham

Service Following a report from a local fishing boat that one of the crew had collapsed the AWB and a

Navy vessel were tasked. Navy Medics in a RIB reached the fishing vessel shortly before the

AWB. Parameds from both crews provided assistance. The casualty was placed in a stretcher

and transferred to the AWB for a Helo lift to Torbay Hospital. Sea conditions were perfect for the

transfer.

Service Whilst on a preplanned trip the AWB was tasked to investigate a sighting thought to be a

windsurfer in difficulty. Found to be a large patch of seaweed. False alarm with good intent

Location of Cod Rocks

Service Having just returned to exercise a report was received of an upturned vessel near the Cod

Rocks south of Berry Head. AWB tasked to investigate and located an inflatable yacht tender

capsized in heavy seas. Towing eye broken. After search assumed tender had broken away

during a tow. Inflatable recovered to Station.

Additional Notes Strong to Gale force easterly winds at this time.

Service Whilst on exercise AWB tasked to an injured person at Goodrington. Person swimming off steps

in rough seas and sustained grazes. Helped ashore by others. AWB returned to exercise.

Location of Brixham Harbour Entrance

Service On entering Brixham Harbour from the previous shout Brixham Yacht Club Race Control

reported a Man Overboard from a yacht also at the harbour entrance. AWB tasked to investigate.

Yachts in the vicinity reported no problems.

Additional Notes Coastguards met the yachts concerned.

Location of Line bearing 005 deg from Berry Head

Service HM Coastguard at the Brixham MRCC heard the phrase 'May Day' twice. A bearing for the source

was established and the AWB together with Teignmouth and Exmouth searched the line.

Nothing was found and the search was terminated at 20:45.

Location of Blackpool Sands, nr Dartmouth

Service Launched to a report of three young children being blown out to sea at Blackpool Sands near

Dartmouth. They lost their oars and were approx 400 yards from shore when canoeists went to

their aid and assisted them back to shore. ALB stood down at 16:04 once children safe.

Additional Notes HM Coastguard gave advice to the parents.

Service The five meter yacht 'Puffin' lost rigging off the coast near Blackpool Sands, Dartmouth. With

wind and tide against her she was unable to make the River Dart and was at risk to being taken

ashore towards Strete gate. ALB took her in tow to Dartmouth Castles where they were met by

the Harbour Masters launch.

Service Once again a Red Flare report to be investigated. AWB tasked to the Fishcombe and Seven

Quarries area based on the flare reports from a number of sources. Nothing untoward found

Location of 0.5 mile East Holicombe Beach.

Service Launched to search for a wind surfer who apparently went missing whilst out with another in

Torbay at around 13:30. The first report came from the companion wind surfer when he got

ashore. The search involved all SAR Assets in the area. The wind was generally SW7 Gusting 9

reducing surface visibility. His surf board was found blowing out of Torbay unoccupied. He was

located at 17:01 following a sighting from the shore approximately half a mile from shore near

Holicombe having swum a considerable distance back towards shore. He was exhausted and

unable to swim. Torbay Lifeboats recovered him before Helo transfer to Torbay Hospital. A 'good

job' by all concerned.

Additional Notes Teignmouth and Exmouth lifeboats joined the search together with Rescue 163 from Culdrose

and the Coastguard Shore teams

Service Preparing to Launch for person in the water at Steamer Quay, Totnes. All sorted at 02:22 and

stood down.

Location of Daddy Hole

Service Launched in support of a difficult cliff rescue operation of two people stuck on the cliff face at

Daddy Hole, The two anglers became trapped approximately 30 ft above the quarry floor on the

seaward side of a wall on the cliff in deteriorating weather conditions. The rescue by helo R169

was completed shortly after 01:00, The ALB provided flood lighting and the ILB standing by in

case of a fall. The cliff teams had to deploy approx 180 ft down the cliff to secure the casualties.

ALB released after the cliff team had recovered all their gear at 01:43. A big job!

Location of Sharkham Point

Service Launched following a report to HM Coastguard from Dartmouth Police that a 16ft open boat with

nine youths on board was seen putting to sea. They were apparently intending to make way to

Brixham and were last seen leaving the River Dart. ALB tasked to check on their safety and

escort them to shore. Boat located near Sharkham Point and returned with all safe to Brixham.

They were met by Coastguards and Police.

Additional Notes Actually a 10 ft boat with five on board

Location of Approx 1 mile South Torquay Harbour

Service A 24 ft open speed boat with six persons on board suffered a complete electrical failure shortly

after leaving Torquay Marina. HM Coastguard requested assistance from any vessels in the area

but none responded. AWB launched and took vessel in tow back to the Torquay Marina.

Service The ALB had just commenced an exercise when she was tasked to a 40 ft Angling Vessel out of

Torquay with 10 people on board. He had suffered a split fuel line and lost power. Pan Pan

brought no suitable response. AWB returned her under tow and arrived at Torquay 21:00 hrs.
