Service Diverted from exercise to assist Dart Lifeboat recover a 7 metre RIB in difficulty at Redlap Cove

SW of the River Dart entrance. ALB with the assistance of the Dart Lifeboat towed RIB to the

River Dart entrance and Dart Lifeboat took the RIB in tow to a river mooring.

Location of Casualty 50 18.37N 002 54.10W  See Chartlet for position

Service Launched in response to May Day following capsize of the fishing vessel 'Alayna' some 24 miles ESE

(107 deg) from Berry Head. Other vessels in vicinity responded and two casualties recovered to

Rescue Helo 106. ALB stood down once casualties known to be safe.

Additional Notes HMS Bulwark on scene and Exmouth lifeboat tasked to the capsized vessel.

Location of Casualty 0.7 miles East of Berry Head

Service Fishing vessel Angel Emiel suffered engine failure passing Berry Head. ALB launched to her

assistance. Shortly after launch she recovered engine power. ALB continued to position to

check before returning to station.

Additional Notes Northerly wind Force 5 with heavy swell running at the time.

Location of Casualty 50 22.11N 003 13.9W

Service A local fisherman suffered a broken arm whilst fishing some 14 miles East of Berry Head. ALB

with a paramedic on board was launched to stabilise and assess the injury. Fisherman

evacuated and transferred to Torquay Harbour and an awaiting ambulance. His crew returned the

fishing boat to Brixham.

Location of Casualty 100 metres off Thatcher Rock.        Link to Photo of ALB on this tasking

Service A member of the public observed what appeared to be three people in the sea near Thatcher

Rock and called HM Coastguard. The ALB was immediately tasked. Three teenagers were

recovered from the sea after their Canadian style canoe had been swamped in Force 5/6 North

Easterly winds. They had been in the sea for around thirty five minutes and were hypothermic.

Recovered to the ALB and transferred to awaiting ambulances at Torquay Harbour and then to

Torbay Hospital - they were very lucky to have been observed by a sharp eyed member of the

public..

Additional Notes Canoe was recovered later once casualties had been taken ashore.

Location of Casualty Blackpool Sands area

Service Launched to a report of a kayak and wind surfer possibly in difficulty between Blackpool Sands,

Dartmouth and Torcross. Shortly after launch they were reported to be safe - launch stood down.

Location of Casualty 25 miles SSE of Berry Head

Service The Brixham Trawler .'Sasha Emiel' suffered a complete loss of power. Pan Pan issued but no

vessels responded. ALB launched to her assistance. The 23 metre Beam Trawler was returned

under tow to Brixham in a near easterly gale arriving at the Breakwater around 14:45.

Additional Notes Pilot Boat assistance required to manoeuvre trawler within the harbour before she berthed.

Service Launched to escort the vessel 'Red Shank' with three persons on board suffering serious fuel

problems and inbound for Teignmouth.

Location of Casualty South Side of Berry Head.

Service Whilst on a PR Run the crew observed fishing equipment on Berry Head both at the shore line

and on the access route down the cliff. Two crew put ashore to investigate - found a pack with

personal belongings. Shortly afterwards a flask of coffee was found floating off the Head. Full

search initiated. ILB tasked as well as the Cliff Rescue Teams and Rescue Helicopter 106. The

Police visited the address identified in the personal belongings. Fisherman found at home!

Search Terminated at 10:16.

Additional Notes Fisherman went home in darkness intending to return and collect equipment in daylight.

Location of Casualty Hopes Nose - North Side

Service Launched to assist on recovery of a young lady who had fallen on rocks at Hopes Nose and had

a suspected broken leg. Evacuation by sea from this location being the easiest. Casualty taken

to Torquay Harbour to an awaiting ambulance.
