Service Launched on exercise to 'rescue' all the crewmen available today who have served with David

Hurford during his period as Coxswain. Today until Midnight is his final day as Coxswain of Torbay

Lifeboat. The pager will be switched off at Midnight.

Location of Casualty River Dart

Service Launched together with the ILB to search for a red tender with two teenagers on board within the

River Dart between Stoke Gabriel and Dartmouth. Youths seen running on shore and met by Police

and Coastguards.

Additional Notes AWB Y Boat, Chivenor Helo 169, Police and three Coastguard teams deployed.

Location of Casualty East of the Dart Entrance

Service A 40 ft Sloop 'Long Bow II' suffered engine failure approximately half a mile east of the River Dart

entrance. AWB tasked to her assistance. Sloop towed to Dartmouth.

Location of Casualty Berry Head

Service See previous shout - shoreline search carried out in daylight to complete search for missing person

but nothing found on the shoreline or visible cliff areas. AWB released at 09:44

Additional Notes Police Helo, Police and Cliff teams all out searching as last evening.

Location of Casualty Berry Head

Service Shortly after launching on exercise the Coastguard advised the Coxswain of a possible missing

person at Berry Head. AWB tasked to join search of the lower cliff areas and shoreline around Berry

Head. Missing person not located in the darkness. Search stood down around 22:30 for all units.

Location of Casualty Start bay, Skerries

Service Launched to join a search by Salcombe and Helo 163 in Start Bay for a small fishing boat that

apparently 'vanished' near the Skerries Bell. The owner heard reports on the Local Radio when he

was safe at home and contacted the Coastguard around 18:45.

Additional Notes The original search was initiated following a report from a well respected local fisherman at around

16:30. As conditions worsened Torbay was tasked to join the search.

Location of Casualty 100 yards off Haldon Pier head.

Service Launched to a report of a 24 year old lady having entered the sea off Haldon Pier, Torquay and being

taken out to sea by wind and tide.

AWB with paramedic on board tasked. Y boat launched. Young lady quickly located by lifeboat crew

and recovered to the AWB before being landed. This was truly a life saved. She had been in the sea

for around 25 minutes.

Additional Notes All services involved including Police Helicopter. Para flares used to illuminate sea

Location of Casualty Tow transfer Dartmouth Mewstone area.

Service The disabled yacht 'Teazer' a 36ft Sigma was taken in tow earlier today by Salcombe LB with a view

to taking her to Dartmouth. However, weather conditions were such that attempting an entry to the

Dart was judged as high risk. ALB tasked to take over the tow and bring her to Brixham. Tow was

successful

Additional Notes Winds gusting SW 9 Heavy Rain and very poor visibility

Service Launched to a windsurfer apparently in difficulty at Preston. The windsurfer self recovered as the

lifeboat launched. ALB stood down and returned to the moorings.

Service Launched to the assistance of a single handed 4 metre fishing boat with engine failure. Fishing boat

Location of Casualty 12 miles East of Berry Head.

Service Fishing Vessel 'Angelina' suffered an overheated engine and lost power. No other vessels in the

vicinity and with deteriorating weather conditions the AWB was tasked to her assistance. 'Angelina'

was returned under tow to Brixham.

Additional Notes SSW winds freshened to gale force with 4 to 5 metre wave heights.

Location of Casualty Meadfoot Beach

Service Launched to a report of a small yacht apparently under sail but not under command and at risk of

running aground near the Kilmorie Flats. 'Y' boat launched with paramedic to check yacht occupant

and establish a tow away from shore. Yacht then taken in tow by the AWB to Torquay Harbour.

Occupant again checked over by paramedics.
