Location of Broadsands

Service Both lifeboats tasked to join in a search for a missing person thought to be in the area of Elberry

Cove or Broadsands. Police and Coastguard teams already searching the beaches and cliff

paths at the time of the request for lifeboat assistance. The search was terminated at 20:00

when the missing person was located at home.

Additional Notes The missing person had been 'recovered' by a friend and taken home.

Location of Below Berry Head Quarry

Service A local fisherman reported a car in the sea below Berry Head. He was unable to confirm it was

unoccupied. ALB, Coastguards, Police and Ambulance all tasked to the scene. Subsequently

confirmed car had been stolen. ALB Crew confirmed car was unoccupied using the Y boat.

Service The 16 metre fishing vessel Emma Jane was taken in tow in the early hours of Monday morning

by her sister vessel. Salcombe lifeboat was launched to assist them into Salcombe around

07:00. Weather conditions were such that it was decided to divert to Dartmouth. Again weather

conditions presented difficulties with the tow parting on a number of occasions. Assistance

requested from Torbay and ALB launched meeting them and transferring the tow around Start

Point. Emma Jane towed into the River Dart.

Location of St Mary's Bay

Service Lifeboat diverted from an exercise to investigate reports of a possible people in difficulty in St

Mary's Bay South of Berry Head. Wind surfers and Canoeists located but otherwise all OK. ALB

returned to exercise.

Additional Notes Winds from the South Force 7 Gusting 9 with Heavy Rain at times.

Service Whilst on exercise the Jubilee Sailing Trust vessel 'Tenacious' on passage to Torbay reported a

fire in her engine room. ALB immediately diverted from exercise towards her some 25 miles

East of Berry Head. She had 39 persons on board. Fire brought under control as lifeboats stood

by. She was escorted under sail towards Portland by LB17-27 and Torbay returned home when

all safe.

Additional Notes Lifeboat 17-27 also on passage and also diverted towards the Tenacious.

Location of Dartmouth Mew Stone

Service The 30ft Catamaran style fishing vessel on passage from Brixham to Galmpton suffered

engine failure close to the Dartmouth Mew Stone. ALB tasked to her assistance. She managed

to anchor approx 50 ft off the Southern end of the Mew Stone rocks but anchor not holding. FV

Bosloe got a line on and held her off the rocks. Transferred to ALB and vessel taken in tow to

Kingswear.

Additional Notes Fishing Vessels 'Lloyd Tyler' and 'Bosloe' attended and assisted. Weather poor - wind SE F5/6 -

not a good place to break down!

Service Both lifeboats launched following a request to search for a possible missing person in the

Broadsands and Elberry area. ILB located a person in the water at Elberry Cove and recovered

her to the ILB and beach. Person then transferred to the ALB and to Brixham to an awaiting

Ambulance.

Service The 35 ft yacht 'Beau Jangles' making for Torquay with five on board suffered gear box failure

and was unable to manoeuvre in close quarters. In the fresh Easterly wind and poor sea

conditions she requested assistance. ALB tasked to return her to Torbay (Brixham).

Service Emergency call received re a person entering the sea at Torre Abbey Sands , Torquay in

suspicious circumstances. Police, Ambulance and ALB tasked. Person apprehended by police

shortly before ALB arrived on scene.

Location of Princess Pier, Torquay

Service Launched to assist in the recovery of a young lady who had jumped into the sea with a life ring at

Princess Pier, Torquay. Police and Paramedics on scene at the time and recovered her before

the lifeboat arrived. ALB stood down and returned to station.

Additional Notes Torquay Marina Workboat assisted in recovery. Wind West F7 - a dark, wet and miserable night
