Incident Date 25-May-03(2) Ready for Service Date 25-May-03 Launch Instruct 15:00 Ready for Service Time 15:30 Launch Time 15:00 Inshore Life Boat (ILB) 2003 Shout Number 19 Helm Nigel Crang Location of Casualty Torbay Power Boat Race Circuit Service Whilst providing cover for the Torbay Power Boat Race one boat 'flipped' at high speed throwing the drivers into the sea. ILB recovered the crew - who were shaken if not stirred - and took them to Haldon Pier before returning to continue covering the race. Grenville House Staff arrived simultaneously and took their vessels in tow. Coast Guard shore team requested ILB's assistance - ILB launched. On arrival person had just self recovered from Corbyn Head. ILB checked headland for anyone else before returning to station. ILB launched in case of difficulties developing. Person self recovered with help of Ambulance crew. ILB stood down before reaching scene. Additional Notes Harbour Master called Ambulance initially. ILB Crew on training exercise at time were tasked to recover. Additional Notes ======================================================================================= Incident Date 19-May-03 Ready for Service Date 19-May-03 Launch Instruct 12:20 Ready for Service Time 14:25 Launch Time 12:25 Inshore Life Boat (ILB) 2003 Shout Number 14 Helm Gareth Dallow Location of Casualty Paignton Pier - Torquay side Service Small wooden yacht (5m) capsized in Strong to Gale Force SW winds (offshore at this location) occupants observed sitting on upturned hull. ILB launched to recover - two people returned to Preston Beach and dinghy towed inshore and righted. Additional Notes Shore based Coast Guard teams in attendance to assist. ======================================================================================= Incident Date 15-May-03 Ready for Service Date 15-May-03 Launch Instruct 20:02 Ready for Service Time 21:25 Launch Time 20:02 Inshore Life Boat (ILB) 2003 Shout Number 13 Helm Nigel Crang Location of Casualty 3 miles NNE of Brixham Harbour Service Single handed yachtsman unable to locate entrance to Brixham Harbour. In view of his confusion the Coast Guard tasked the ILB - already out on exercise - to offer assistance. Yacht made it into Brixham Additional Notes Apparently this yachtsman has been making his way along the South Coast and is known to the Coast Guard ======================================================================================= Incident Date 11-May-03 Ready for Service Date 11-May-03 Launch Instruct 11:30 Ready for Service Time 12:00 Launch Time 11:30 Inshore Life Boat (ILB) 2003 Shout Number 12 Helm Gareth Dallow Location of Casualty Livermead Headland Service Whilst on Sunday morning exercise the crew observed two young people in a position on Livermead Headland that would shortly be cut off by the rising tide. The crew went to their assistance and safely landed them at Torquay. Additional Notes This headland is quite dangerous. ======================================================================================= Incident Date 04-May-03 Ready for Service Date 04-May-03 Launch Instruct 17:12 Ready for Service Time 17:29 Launch Time 17:18 Inshore Life Boat (ILB) 2003 Shout Number 10 Helm Nigel Crang Location of Casualty 50 27.3N 003 31.5W Near East Shag Rock Service May Day Relay issued at 17:15 covering a 23ft Speed Boat out of fuel with six persons on board drifting towards rocky coastline. ILB tasked to assist. May Day resulted in another boat going to assistance and returning speed boat to Torquay. ILB stood down at 17:20 Additional Notes Indications are that the passengers had no life jackets, no flares and no marine band VHF. Contact made via mobile phone. Advice being given by Coastguard team. ======================================================================================= Incident Date 19-Apr-03 Ready for Service Date 19-Apr-03 Launch Instruct 19:44 Ready for Service Time 20:35 Launch Time 19:51 Inshore Life Boat (ILB) 2003 Shout Number 9 Helm Simon James Location of Casualty Corbyn Head, Torquay Service Three wind surfers in difficulty off Corbyn Head, Torquay. Recovered and taken to Haldon Pier Torquay. Winds were NE Force 6 at the time. Additional Notes Coast Guard shore team met casualties ======================================================================================= Incident Date 18-Apr-03 Ready for Service Date 18-Apr-03 Launch Instruct 18:13 Ready for Service Time 19:34 Launch Time 18:18 Inshore Life Boat (ILB) 2003 Shout Number 8 Helm Simon James Location of Casualty Corbyn Head, Torquay Service Four chidren cut off by the rising spring tide. ILB launched and recovered them to Torquay Harbour. Sea conditions were not ideal - on shore wind and waves breaking. But all safely returned to shore. Additional Notes Coastguard team praised ILB crew rescue in poor conditions. ======================================================================================= Incident Date 17-Apr-03 Ready for Service Date 17-Apr-03 Launch Instruct 17:49 Ready for Service Time 18:38 Launch Time 17:53 Inshore Life Boat (ILB) 2003 Shout Number 7 Helm Nigel Crang Location of Casualty Coast between Elberry and Brixham Service A walker on the SW Coastal path got into difficulty between Elberry Cove and Brixham - he did not know his exact position. ILB launched to spot him from the sea so that cliff team could be directed to scene. Located and recovered OK. ILB released at 18:24 Additional Notes Found at northern end of Saltern Cove. =======================================================================================Incident Date 05-Apr-03 Ready for Service Date 05-Apr-03 Launch Instruct 16:12 Ready for Service Time 17:09 Launch Time 16:18 Inshore Life Boat (ILB) 2003 Shout Number 6 Helm Nigel Crang Location of Casualty Livermead Headland Service Young person cut off by incoming tide. Initial report was Corbyn Head but found to be Livermead Headland. ILB launched and recovered him to Tor Abbey Sands - all OK Additional Notes This is not a headland to walk around - there are few shelves to stand on after low water. =================================================================================
