Location of Casualty Tot Abby sands, Torquay

Service Launched following a request from the police to provide assistance in trying to prevent a suicide attempt.

Person entered the water a number of times at Tor Abbey sands but was apprehended OK. ILB stood off

shore during negotiations.

Additional Notes Due to sea conditions at the time the ALB was launched in escort mode to the ILB

Location of Casualty Outer Harbour and Breakwater

Service A small speedboat with a failed engine and three passengers had been observed and assisted by others

during the evening. They had been brought in by a trawler but set off again with one paddle towards

open water. ILB tasked to give advice - but they continued until met by the coastguard on their return just

after darkness fell.

Additional Notes No lifejackets on board, heavy squalls and boat occupants judged at considerable risk.

Location of Casualty 200yards North of Shoalstone

Service A trawler passing between Berry Head and Brixham Breakwater reported an animal swimming some 200

yards off Shoalstone Beach and Swimming Pool. ILB tasked to investigate and recovered a deer to shore.

Deer eventually transferred to 'Animal Ambulance' for a check up.

Additional Notes Deer returned to Berry Head Country Park after check up.

Location of Casualty Elberry Cove

Service Launched to assist and transport a lady with a severely broken ankle from Elberry Cove around the

Churston Headland to Broadsands. She had apparently slipped and fallen badly on steps leading from the

beach.

Additional Notes Ambulance access to Broadsands very easy and weather very calm fortunately.

Service Launched to three young people and a dog cut off by the tide on Livermead Headland. ILB recovered

them and transferred them to Haldon Pier, Torquay where they were met by the Coastguard team.

Location of Casualty Rocks to Eastern end Meadfoot Beach

Service Launched following a request from Devon & Cornwall Constabulary to recover an apparent body on

rocks near the Kilmorie Flats, Torquay. Shortly after launch the object was identified as a large lump of

fishing net. ILB released and returned to station.

Additional Notes AWB also tasked to provide escort to ILB in fairly rough Easterly wind conditions

Service Launched to report of a dog on the rocks between Sharkham Point and Mansands below Southdown

cliff. With the failing light the cliff rescue team requested the ILB as the fastest means of achieving a

recovery below these high cliffs. Collie recovered and taken to its owner on Mansands beach,

Service A member of the public on the coast path observed a small vessel apparently not under command

Location of Casualty Torquay Inner Harbour

Service Launched to assist in recovery of two young men from Torquay Inner Harbour. They had apparently

jumped in to recover a wallet and climbed aboard a boat in the harbour. ILB Crew using a harbour dory

recovered them and returned them to the shore and an awaiting ambulance.

Additional Notes The tide height and the sill being closed meant the ILB could not enter the innerharbour hence use of a

dory.
