Location of Casualty Livermead, Torquay

Service Launched in response to a May Day call from Yacht Patrise identified as being on

a bearing of 330 degrees from Berry Head. Subsequently position established as

5 knot marker line off Livermead. ILB recovered vessel to Torquay Harbour.

Additional Notes ALB also tasked to search from Berry Head. Reason for May Day thought to be

engine failure.

Location of Casualty Savage Hole, Roundham

Service Whilst on exercise the ILB was diverted to Roundham Headland where three

teenagers had become trapped by the rising tide at Savage Hole. They were

returned to Fairy Cove all OK.

Location of Casualty 0.5 nm off Redcliffe

Service A member of the public heard a boat engine stopping and starting and raised

concern with the Coastguard. ILB tasked to check if assistance required. ILB

located two small fishing boats working OK. False alarm.

Additional Notes There was no wind and the sea was glass with perfect visibility hence 'unusual'

sounds travelled well.

Location of Casualty Off Broadsands.

Service Launched to a 20 ft speedboat whose propeller had become caught up in a gill

net and was unable to manoeuvre. ILB crew helped to remove the net and release

the boat to continue on its way to Torquay.

Additional Notes On the way back to station the ILB were redirected to a large floating object - a

long log was recovered.

Location of Casualty 70 - 100 yards off shore at Marine Parade, Preston

Service ILB diverted from a routine exercise to investigate a report of a body in a wet suit

floating in the sea off Marine Parade, Preston. HM Coastguard, Police and

Ambulance also in attendance. ILB located a log approximately five feet long at

the location identified.

Location of Casualty Goodrington South Sands

Service A member of the public reported two inflatables that appeared to be in difficulty off

Goodrington South Sands. ILB tasked to investigate. Whilst on passage original

caller reported the inflatables had apparently made it to shore. ILB continued to

check all was well. No problems found. ILB returned to Station.

Location of Casualty Livermead/Corbyn Head

Service Following a request from the Police via HM Coastguard the ILB was tasked to

recover a holdall 30 yards off shore in the Livermead/Corbyn Head area of Torbay.

Additional Notes High Water at 20:52. Several other personal items recovered that had been

thrown into the sea and handed to the Police.

Location of Casualty Off Saltern Cove - South of Goodrington

Service A windsurfer was observed from the shore waving for assistance. ILB tasked to

the windsurfer who was in difficulty - Force 4/5 Easterly winds and moderate sea

conditions. Windsurfer recovered to ILB and returned with his board to Paignton

Harbour.

Service The small day fishing boat Sea Hawk broke down and ran aground on

Breakwater Beach. ILB tasked to assist. and return her under tow to Brixham.

Service Speed boat 'Regal' with four people on board broke down leaving Brixham

Harbour and was drifting into Churston Cove. Station Boarding Boat went to their

assistance and returned them under tow to the Breakwater Slipway.

Service ILB launched following report from a member of the public of a kite surfer in

difficulty at Broadsands. After extensive search and enquiries nothing found to be

in trouble. Search stood down at 19:40.

Location of Casualty 1.5 miles NW of Brixham Harbour entrance.

Service Launched following a report from a vessel in Torbay of three teenagers in a small

rowing boat (boat tender) attempting to row from Paignton to Brixham. The SE

breeze and unsuitable boat was being blown off course. ILB returned teenagers

and boat to Brixham.

Additional Notes The teenagers had no safety equipment or means of communication.

Service Launched to join an all unit search for a missing person thought to be in the

Meadfoot Beach and Daddy Hole Plain area. Detailed shore line searches carried

out but nothing found. Helo Rescue VA also attended. Nothing found and search

stood down at 15:00

Location of Casualty St Mary's Bay   (Click to View Police Helicopter Video)

Service ILB tasked together with Police Helo and HM Coastguards to search for a

missing 14 year old boy. Possible sighting identified by walkers and Police Helo.

ILB located the boy on the waters edge at the bottom of a cliff. He had fallen

approx 20 ft after slipping down a steep cliff. ILB recovered him and returned him

to the Boat House where he was met by an Ambulance and his very relieved

parents. He suffered some abrasions but was generally OK.

Additional Notes A very satisfactory tasking.

Location of Casualty Paignton Harbour area

Service Launched to assist in search for a missing teenager thought to be in the vicinity of

Roundham Headland and Paignton Harbour. ILB tasked to carry out shore line

searches from Paignton Harbour towards Goodrington. ALB also joined the

search later as did Helo R169. Search terminated at 21:48 when missing teenager found.

Additional Notes Teenager located in Paignton Town by Police Patrol Vehicle.

Location of Casualty Brixham Breakwater

Service Launched following a report of a possible 'Man Overboard' situation in Brixham

Harbour. An inflatable assisting in mooring a vessel lost power and was blown

across the Harbour ending up on the Breakwater. Occupant climbed up the

Breakwater and was taken to Boat house for warm drinks etc.

Additional Notes Wind in the West at Force 8 and above with heavy rain.

Location of Casualty 50 26.88N 003 31.11W

Service Launched following a 999 call from a sinking speed boat understood to be on

passage from Paignton Harbour to Torquay Harbour. Speed boat was located by

the ILB but had sunk with the occupants in the sea nowhere near the apparent

passage line. Two adults, a teenager and dog located at approx 09:38, recovered

to the ILB and taken to an awaiting ambulance at Torquay Harbour. The were

mildly hypothermic. The speed boat had developed a large hole in the hull which

is being investigated. On a murky Sunday morning in winter the occupants were

lucky and pleased to see the lifeboat.

Additional Notes ALB and WB tasked. WB stood down on recovery of casualties.. ALB recovered

the speed boat to Torquay Harbour Master. Occupants had one buoyancy aid and

the dog was in a life jacket.

Location of Casualty Brixham Harbour Ice Plant Dump End

Service Main Boarding Boat launched to assist berthing of the Beam Trawler (AWB Shout

6/2007). The Beam Trawler had her beams rigged making approach to the quay

difficult. The Boarding Boat Crew assisted in getting ropes ashore as quickly as

possible without damage being incurred.

Service Launched to assist in transferring an injured gentleman from Fishcombe Cove to

an awaiting Ambulance at Brixham Harbour. By sea is the easiest route out of this

picturesque cove.

Location of Casualty Brixham Outer Harbour

Service A pram dinghy carrying two people sank after leaving the Yacht Club slipway. ILB

tasked and also the Pilot Boat assisted. The occupants were recovered from the

harbour to the ILB very cold and wet and taken to the Boat House. Crew

paramedic attended them until the Ambulance arrived to take them for a check up.
