Location of Casualty Two cables off Paignton Harbour

Service Following 999 calls to HM Coastguard indicating a Jet Ski driver was in the sea

and unable to get back on board the ILB was tasked to his assistance.

Subsequent reports indicated the Jet Skier may be unconscious in the sea and

the ALB was also tasked in support. However the Jet Skier self recovered as the

ILB approached. He was checked over by the ILB crew and HM Coastguard

before returning to station.

Location of Casualty Brixham Harbour

Service Launched to give additional support to the ILB crew handling a very disturbed young

man. Policeman also joined the ILB. He was recovered from harbour and taken away

by police.

Additional Notes Police assistance given in both the ILB and Boarding Boat

Location of Casualty Brixham Harbour

Service Launched following a report of erratic behaviour by a male in a rowing boat - he was

apparently trying to row out to sea in a strong easterly wind. ILB attempted to return

him to shore but he boarded a yacht to avoid this. Police placed on board both the

ILB and Boarding boat. Male jumped into sea and was the recovered and arrested. A

tricky job!

Location of Casualty Savage Hole, Roundham Head

Service Launched to recover two teenagers apparently cut off by the tide at Savage Hole,

Roundham Headland. ILB crew recovered them to Paignton Harbour where they were

met by HM Coastguard and given safety advice.

Service Launched to a report of an upset England football supporter who had entered the sea

near the Imperial Hotel. He was recovered by the Police and taken to hospital. ILB

stood down a couple of minutes after launching.

Location of Casualty Off Redcliffe

Service Members of the public reported what appeared to be kite surfers in difficulty three

quarters of a mile east of Redcliffe. Subsequently established that the local kite

surfing school were completing lessons and recovering kite.

Location of Casualty Berry Head

Service Following a third party contact with HM Coastguard reporting that a boat had run

aground at Roundham Head both lifeboats were tasked. However the casualty could

not be located. White flares were launched and the casualty position placed them at

Berry Head. Both boats attended however the casualty vessel was well grounded

and the occupants had made it ashore with help from the Coastguard team. Both

boats returned to station.

Location of Casualty 50 metres of Berry Head

Service Two kayakers were observed to be in difficulty through swamping off Berry Head. ILB

tasked and recovered them to Brixham. Others in the party continued towards

Kingswear. Yacht 'Drifter' stood by.

Location of Casualty Elberry Cove

Service Launched to investigate a report from a member of the public that there was an

upturned vessel near Elberry Cove. The object had been observed through a

telescope and turned out to be a white wreath with red flowers. ILB returned to

station.

Location of Casualty Between Brixham and Goodrington?

Service Both lifeboats launched as part of a multi unit search for a missing 13 year old girl.

Personal property had been found between Brixham and Elberry Cove prompting the

search. Intensive search of all areas close to shore and inland between Brixham and

Goodrington. Young lady arrived home at 22:30 - search terminated.

Location of Casualty Possibly Between Roundham and Hopes Nose

Service Following mobile phone calls to the emergency services from a male apparently in

the sea and threatening suicide a full scale search was initiated. Both lifeboats, HM

Coastguard teams and Helo VA were all tasked. Very intensive shore line searches

carried out. Person concerned was located in land at 21:30. Search terminated and

all units returned to station

Location of Casualty Off Hollicombe Headland

Service Following a '999' call to HM Coastguard reporting people in an inflatable waving for

assistance and flashing a light the ILB was tasked to investigate. The ILB located a

RIB with people fishing at the reported location. After investigating other vessels in

the vicinity the ILB returned to station..

Additional Notes The waving was taken to be line casting and the flashing light reflections from the

sun off bright work on board the RIB. False alarm with good intent.

Service Launched to provide support to HM Coastguard team recovering a girl from the rocky

shoreline near the Imperial Hotel, Torquay. Lifeboat returned to station when the girl

was recovered to shore.

Location of Casualty Meadfoot - between East Shag and Thatcher Rock

Service Dive vessel 'Jennifer Ann' lost all power with two divers still in the water. May Day

issued and both the ILB and ALB were tasked. Jennifer Ann managed to get her

engine started as the ILB approached and recovered the two divers who were OK,

ALB escorted them back to Torquay Harbour.

Location of Casualty North of Paignton Pier

Service Launched to search for an apparently overdue kayaker thought to be paddling between

Brixham and Preston. He was reported as overdue and a Pan Pan issued. As

darkness fell he had not been located and the ALB was tasked also. HM

Coastguards on shore located a possible target just before 9 pm - ILB located the

kayaker in a very confused state and took him ashore immediately to be met by an

Ambulance.

Additional Notes ILB had a Crew GP and Crew Paramedic on board able to accurately assess his

condition. A good job by all.

Location of Casualty Armchair Rock, Saltern Cove

Service Launched in support of a Police Operation to return a distressed male to safety. ILB

stood off with a Policeman on board whilst negotiations took place. All services

except one observer withdrew at 16:45 awaiting developments

Additional Notes The person concerned is well known for these events. Lifted by Helo at 23:00

Service As darkness fell a member of the public reported two windsurfers apparently unable

to make shore. ILB tasked to assist them to shore however they managed to recover

themselves without assistance. It was glassy calm with not a breath of wind.

Location of Casualty St Mary's Bay

Service A 12 year old boy dropped a large bolder onto his foot at St Mary's Bay. Ambulance

Control in responding requested the ILB for transport of the injured boy from St

Mary's where road and foot access are very difficult. The boy suffered severe cuts

and a suspected broken toe. He was returned on a stretcher aboard the ILB to the

Boat House and an awaiting ambulance.

Service Launched at the request of Ambulance Control via HM Coastguard to transfer a

person who had fainted from Churston Cove to a suitable landing point. ILB

transferred the gentleman to the Boat House and an awaiting ambulance before

returning to collect his family.

Location of Casualty Torquay Harbour approaches

Service A 14 ft Bayliner speed boat with two persons on board lost steering on approach to

Torquay Harbour. She dropped anchor and requested assistance via HM Coastguard.

No assistance came forward - ILB tasked to return them to Torquay Marina.
