Our new IB1 D Class Arrives D-651 - the 'John William Hirst' took up station at Torbay on Tuesday 4th October 2005 16:00 hrs This is the second D Class that has been funded from the legacy of Mr John William Hirst. The first D Class is within the relief fleet and is named 'EDNA MAY' after his late wife. That naming took place at Hoylake where Mrs Hirst's grandfather William Armitage was a Coxswain. The naming ceremony for the John William Hirst occurred on Sunday 9th April 2006 A record of the Naming Ceremony Day is within the Archive Section. Below is a record of the arrival, unpacking and putting into service and the subsequent withdrawal of D-504 our faithful workhorse for almost ten years. We look forward to working with the 'John William Hirst' Click on the thumbnails for a larger view The Crew are impressed! |
